Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has criticised the growing social media trend of sharing private messages and unreplied direct messages after someone dies.
Speaking on a podcast, the actress expressed frustration over what she described as performative online tributes from people who ignored the individuals in question. At the same time, they were alive but suddenly become emotional publicly after their death.
“All those people that post people’s DM when they are dead, if you post my DM, I’ll wake up, slap you and go back to the grave. Don’t try it,” she said.
Etinosa also directed her comments toward movie producers she had previously contacted for acting opportunities but who had allegedly never responded.
According to her, such people should not later post her messages publicly or claim that she once begged to be featured in their productions after her death.
“DM you didn’t reply,” she said.
“All the movie producers that I am telling I love your work, cast me in your film and you never answered me. Don’t come back to say ‘Oh and she said I should cast her’ after I am dead.”
Her comments have since sparked conversations online about social media behaviour, celebrity culture, and the increasing trend of people posting screenshots of private conversations after tragic events.
Many users agreed with the actress, arguing that genuine support and appreciation should be shown while people are alive, not after their death.
Etinosa Idemudia is known for her outspoken personality and controversial takes on social issues within the entertainment industry.
Before fully moving into entertainment, she studied Computer Engineering at Covenant University and briefly worked in the oil and gas sector, then transitioned into acting, filmmaking, and content creation.
