Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has warned the public about a fake AI-generated video currently circulating online that uses her likeness and an altered voice.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, the founder of EbonyLife Group said the manipulated clip was being spread through a Facebook account identified as “Naija Capital Growth.”
According to her, the voice and message featured in the viral video were digitally altered and did not originate from her.
“It’s important that I address a fake video currently circulating online from a Facebook account called ‘Naija Capital Growth,’” she wrote.
“Please note that my voice and the message in the video has been altered.”
Mo Abudu firmly denied requesting money from anyone and warned the public not to fall victim to the scam.
“I have not asked anyone for money, and I would never ask for money in this way or manner,” she stated.
“This video is completely fake and misleading.”
The media executive also explained that the manipulated footage was taken from an interview she granted to Maggie McGrath during the Forbes 30/50 Summit held in Abu Dhabi on March 23, 2023.
She urged supporters to help spread awareness to prevent others from being scammed.
“Please do not send or part with any money in relation to this fake video,” she added.
Mo Abudu is widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading media executives and filmmakers.
Through EbonyLife Media, she has produced projects including The Wedding Party, Blood Sisters, and Oloture.
She has also partnered with global studios and platforms, including Netflix, Sony, BBC Studios, and Lionsgate, on various film and television projects.
Her warning comes amid growing global concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence to create deepfake videos, perpetrate impersonation scams, and disseminate misleading celebrity endorsements online.
