“I Knew God Wanted Me to Do Something Else” — Mo Abudu Reflects on Leaving Oil Career at 40

Mo Abudu Biography, Age, Husband, Businesess, EbonyLife, Net Worth, and Career

Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu has opened up about the pivotal decision to leave a successful corporate career in the oil and gas sector at the age of 40 to pursue her passion in media.

Speaking at a conference focused on career growth and personal development, Abudu described the move as a defining moment driven by purpose rather than necessity.

“I left my stable 9-to-5 oil and gas job at 40 to follow mine. It was a really nice job, and there was no reason to leave, but I knew God wanted me to do something else,” she said.

Before transitioning into media, Abudu held senior roles in human resources and training at ExxonMobil, where she built a strong professional reputation. Despite the stability and prestige of her position, she chose to step out of her comfort zone to pursue a broader impact.

That decision led to the creation of EbonyLife, a media platform that has since become a major force in African entertainment.

Through her work, Abudu has produced and executive-produced notable projects such as The Wedding Party, The Governor, Castle and Castle, and Chief Daddy, helping to elevate African storytelling on the global stage.

Her journey is often cited as a case study in career reinvention, highlighting the intersection of purpose, risk-taking, and long-term vision in building a legacy-driven enterprise.
