Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has opened up about the remarkable story behind one of her biggest digital successes, revealing how a seemingly impossible idea eventually grew into a French-language YouTube channel with more than one million subscribers.
The filmmaker shared the testimony while reflecting on a period in her life shortly after the birth of her daughter, when she received what she believes was divine inspiration to launch a content platform in a language she did not even speak.
According to Kadiri, the idea came while she was living in London and adjusting to life as a new mother.
What made the instruction particularly puzzling, she said, was that she had no knowledge of French and no obvious path to building a French-speaking audience.
Yet the conviction remained strong.
“After I had my daughter in London, I was walking down the stairs one day, and I felt God say, start a French YouTube channel,” she recalled.
“I did not speak French. It made no sense, but I knew that voice. It had guided me before.”
Believing she needed to act on what she had heard, the actress began exploring ways to make the vision a reality.
However, the journey quickly became frustrating.
Kadiri explained that her early efforts were filled with setbacks. She searched for translators and collaborators who could help bring the project to life, but things did not go according to plan.
At one point, she said she lost money to someone who failed to deliver on their promises.
The disappointing experience eventually left her discouraged.
“I tried to obey. I looked for translators, but it did not work out. One person took my money and disappeared.”
After repeated disappointments, the actress admitted she began questioning whether she had misunderstood the inspiration in the first place.
The project was eventually abandoned.
“I became tired and dropped the idea. I felt maybe I heard wrong this time,” she said.
What happened next, however, changed everything.
Just when she had completely let go of the idea, Kadiri received an unexpected phone call from someone interested in helping her launch French-language content.
Without actively searching for a solution, she suddenly found the right partner.
“Then, one day, a man called me and asked if I was interested in doing French. Just like that, the right person appeared.”
That conversation became the breakthrough she had been waiting for.
With the right collaboration finally in place, the project moved forward and eventually developed into a thriving French-language YouTube platform that attracted audiences far beyond Nigeria.
Today, the channel has surpassed one million subscribers, making it one of the most successful expansions of her growing digital media empire.
For Kadiri, the experience serves as a reminder that success often arrives through unexpected paths and that timing can be just as important as talent or effort.
“Today, that French channel has over a million subscribers. That is how God’s plans are different from our plans,” she said.
The achievement highlights another dimension of Ruth Kadiri’s influence beyond traditional Nollywood filmmaking.
Over the past several years, she has built one of the most successful independent film brands on YouTube, consistently attracting millions of viewers across Africa and the diaspora through her productions.
Her ability to identify new audiences and expand beyond English-language content has strengthened her position as one of Nigeria’s most innovative digital storytellers.
What began as an idea that seemed impossible has now become one of her most notable accomplishments.
For Kadiri, the lesson is clear: some opportunities may not make sense at first, but persistence, faith, and patience can sometimes turn unlikely visions into extraordinary success stories.
