Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has opened up about why she chose to keep her return to the movie industry secret until her latest project was completed.
Speaking on Your View with Morayo Afolabi Brown, the 59-year-old actress reflected on her years away from Nigeria, motherhood and her return to the big screen.
Bukky revealed that she deliberately avoided announcing her comeback because she has learned that keeping important plans private often leads to better results.
“I didn’t tell people I was coming back. A lot of people didn’t know I was shooting because I have learnt something: what you keep to your heart manifests better. Thanks to my son and my team; they pulled the marketing strategy together.”
She also explained that her decision to relocate abroad years ago was motivated by her children, saying family always came first.
“I left this country many years ago because of my children, and I will do it over and over again if I had to. At this point, I think I have to apologise. I am so sorry I left you guys without letting you know. Mama duty called.”
Bukky’s latest project, The Return of Omotara Johnson, marks her return to leading roles in Nollywood. According to her, the sequel was inspired by fans who repeatedly asked for the story to continue.
The film follows the 2008 Yoruba classic Omotara Johnson and premiered in Lagos on July 5 before opening in cinemas nationwide on July 10, 2026.
It features an ensemble cast including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Toyin Abraham, Ali Nuhu and Chidi Mokeme.
After taking an extended break from the industry, Bukky has gradually returned to acting in recent years, including an appearance in the 2025 cinema release Red Circle.
With The Return of Omotara Johnson, the actress says she is excited to reconnect with audiences who have continued to support her throughout her career.
