Sophia Momodu Threatens Caroline Hutchings With N10bn Lawsuit Over Alleged Defamatory Snapchat Post

Sharelle Rosado Defends Sophia Momodu After Caroline Danjuma's Alleged Affair Claims

Reality TV personality Caroline Hutchings is facing possible legal action after lawyers representing media personality Sophia Momodu issued a pre-action notice over an alleged defamatory post shared on Snapchat.

The legal notice alleges that although Caroline did not mention Sophia by name, the post was widely interpreted by social media users and several blogs as referring to Davido’s first baby mama, triggering a wave of online backlash.

According to Sophia’s legal team, the widespread circulation of the post allegedly subjected their client to cyberbullying, public ridicule and reputational harm as internet users linked her to the claims made in the Snapchat publication.

The dispute adds another chapter to the growing number of celebrity defamation cases in Nigeria, where social media posts are increasingly subject to legal scrutiny when they are perceived to damage an individual’s reputation.

In the pre-action notice, Sophia’s lawyers argued that the issue could have been resolved privately before escalating.

They disclosed that Sophia allegedly contacted Caroline directly on July 3, 2026, seeking clarification after the post began attracting attention online. According to the legal team, she wanted confirmation that the publication was not about her if that was indeed the case.

However, they claim Caroline neither responded to the private inquiry nor made any public statement distancing Sophia from the allegations, allowing speculation to continue across social media platforms and entertainment blogs.

As a result, Sophia’s legal representatives are demanding several remedies before commencing formal court proceedings.

Among the demands outlined in the notice are:

  • An unequivocal public retraction of the publication.
An unreserved apology to be published on Snapchat and every other social media platform controlled by Caroline Hutchings.
  • A clear statement confirming that the publication was never about, nor intended to refer to, Sophia Momodu.
  • Financial compensation for the alleged emotional distress and damage to Sophia’s reputation.
  • A written undertaking that Caroline will refrain from making future statements capable of being interpreted as referring to or defaming Sophia.

The lawyers warned that failure to comply with the demands within 48 hours could leave them with no option but to institute legal proceedings.

Should the matter proceed to court, Sophia’s legal team said they would seek multiple reliefs, including a judicial declaration that the publication was false and defamatory, an order compelling a public retraction and apology, N10 billion in general and aggravated damages, a perpetual injunction restraining Caroline from making similar publications in the future, as well as N50 million to cover legal costs.

Despite the strong demands contained in the notice, the lawyers indicated that litigation is not their preferred outcome.

They noted that the dispute remains open to an amicable resolution if both parties engage in constructive discussions before initiating court proceedings.

As of the time of publication, Caroline Hutchings has not publicly responded to the allegations or the legal notice reportedly served by Sophia Momodu’s representatives.

With both women being high-profile public figures, the case is expected to attract significant public attention if it proceeds to court, particularly given the substantial damages being sought and the increasing role social media posts play in celebrity defamation disputes.
