“Two shattered people cannot come together and make a home” – Chigul

Marriage Requires Two Emotionally Mature People, Not Just Love Nigerian comedian and actress Chioma Omeruah, popularly known as Chigul, has shared her thoughts on what makes a successful marriage, stressing that love alone is not enough to sustain a healthy relationship.

According to the actress, marriage thrives when both partners are emotionally mature and equally committed to building a life together.

Chigul explained that while love is an essential part of any relationship, it cannot replace emotional maturity, commitment and the willingness to grow together as a couple.

She noted that unresolved emotional wounds often affect how partners communicate, resolve conflicts and support one another during difficult times.

Although she acknowledged that no one enters marriage completely healed or with everything figured out, she encouraged couples to be honest about their personal struggles and actively work toward emotional healing.

The actress also emphasized that marriage should never fall solely on one partner.

Instead, she believes both husband and wife must be equally invested in the relationship by listening to each other, making sacrifices and navigating life’s challenges together.

In her words:

“Two shattered people cannot come together and make a home. When we are broken, we hurt ourselves and others. Marriage is not the responsibility of one person but requires commitment, effort and emotional maturity from both partners.”

Chigul’s remarks shift the focus from grand romantic gestures to the everyday choices that strengthen a marriage.

According to her, lasting relationships are built not only on love but also on accountability, personal growth and the consistent effort both partners make to nurture their union over time.

Her comments have resonated with many on social media, where users have praised the emphasis on emotional healing, mutual responsibility and the importance of entering marriage with the willingness to grow together rather than expecting one person to carry the relationship alone.
