Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up about one of the most difficult seasons of his life, revealing that he lost his job just three months after getting married, a setback that plunged him into years of financial challenges.
Speaking about the experience, the actor said what should have been the beginning of a joyful chapter quickly turned into a period marked by uncertainty and mounting responsibilities.
Arukwe recalled that he got married in August, only to lose his job in November of the same year.
“The same year that I settled down, I lost my job. I got married in August, and I lost my job in November. That happened, and my finances just went crazy.”
As if losing his job wasn’t enough, the actor said he was also involved in a car accident during the same period, creating even more financial pressure.
“At that same period, I had an accident with my car. It was stupid, it was a mess.”
Arukwe revealed that his annual rent has been due every January since 2013, making the festive season a time of budgeting rather than celebration.
While many people enjoyed the holidays, he found himself calculating expenses and preparing for rent payments.
“My yearly rent starts in January so when everyone is doing Detty December, and this has been happening since 2013, I’m always calculating. I am not spending, I am not partying, I’m literally calculating stuff.”
The arrival of his first daughter brought additional financial obligations, including school fees, which further stretched his resources.
Despite the growing demands, the actor said he kept pushing forward.
“My rent was due every January and when my first daughter came, school fees happened too. So, yes, my finances have been a mess for the longest. My small circle of friends know.”
Arukwe noted that while many people see only his current success, very few are aware of the years he spent carefully managing limited resources, making difficult financial decisions, and relying on the support of close friends who understood his struggles.
His story serves as a reminder that behind many success stories are seasons of hardship, resilience and unwavering determination.
