Veteran singer, Robert Kelly, better known as R. Kelly has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for child sex crimes by a federal judge.
This comes after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter in three videos.
It should be noted that the singer is already serving a 30-year sentence after a jury convicted him of racketeering and sex trafficking.
During the hearing, U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber ruled that Mr. Kelly would serve nearly the entirety of one sentence concurrently with a previous 30-year sentence imposed last year on racketeering charges stemming from his Brooklyn case.
Leinenweber also ordered that Kelly serve one year in prison following his New York sentence. Federal prosecutors had argued that the 56-year-old deserved 25 years in prison on top of his earlier sentence. The singer’s “lack of remorse” was cited as a reason he would pose a danger to society if released
