He is the son of Nigerian actor Pete Edochie and is from Anambra state. He grew up in both Lagos and Enugu. He is the sixth and final child.
He married when he was 22 years old. His name was inspired by the well-known Russian actor Yul Brynner. The University of Port Harcourt awarded him a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts.
