Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has revealed his reasons for departing the pitch early before the club’s end-of-season lap of appreciation.
Despite finishing the season with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, Pochettino’s team had a challenging campaign but managed to secure sixth place with five successive victories.
With speculation surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge, his abrupt exit from the pitch only added to the uncertainty.
Along with his coaching staff, Pochettino left before having the chance to thank the fans for their support.
Speaking at his post-match press conference while the squad were still out on the pitch, he said of his early exit: “Because there was no time, because Thiago Silva [had a goodbye presentation].
“And then when the players started [to do the lap], [press officer] Adrian [Phillips] said I needed to go inside.
“Maybe now I’ll go and give a tour [of the pitch].”
