In a recent interview with BET, Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage disclosed that she frequently finds herself being compared to other female artists by enthusiastic fans.
According to Tiwa Savage, these fans often pit her against emerging female artists, suggesting that they are aiming to dethrone her.
Rather than engaging in this perceived competition, the ‘Water & Garri’ actress expressed her belief that music should not be viewed as a competition. She stated that she prefers to build friendships with new female artists instead.
She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’
“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
