Mikel Obi was once my role model – Alex Iwobi spills

Alex Iwobi allegedly banned for Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana

In a recent interview with Kiss Fresh, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi shared that former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi was once his idol during his career.

Alex Iwobi mentioned that he was inspired by Mikel’s achievements, especially when he broke Mikel’s record for the most minutes played in the Premier League by a Nigerian footballer.

Looking ahead, Iwobi expressed his determination to extend the record further, challenging others to work harder if they aim to break it in the future.

“Surpassing Mikel Obi to become the Nigerian player with the most minutes played in the Premier League is crazy,” he expressed.

“I’m not trying to stop, I’m trying to increase that, so whoever is coming after the record would have a lot of hard work to do. Yeah, it’s a big achievement because John Obi is a legend in the game. The fact that I’ve played with him, I feel old. He was my idol at one point, but now he is a legend.”
