‘Professional footballers are not paid every week’ – Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, debunks the common belief that professional footballers are paid on a weekly basis.

In a recent episode of the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, the PAOK Salonica defender shared that while football payments are calculated weekly, players do not actually receive their wages every week.

Troost-Ekong emphasized that payment systems differ across countries and could only speak from his own experience.

The co-host, Tunde Young asked: “Do professional footballers get paid weekly like everybody in Nigeria believes?”

He replied: “No. Some countries they calculate weekly but from what I know, I can only speak for myself, you won’t see anything on weekly basis. It’s not like you’re getting alert every week.”

William Troost-Ekong has played in the Premier League, Serie A, and currently plies his trade in the Greek league.
