Bonang Matheba, also known as ‘Queen B’, recently celebrated her 37th birthday with a magnificent supper attended by family and close friends.
The evening’s highlight came when, after nearly a year of speculation, Bonang revealed her new beau, David Phume, to the world.
The robotics pioneer commemorated the event by giving her a magnificent clock worth over R280,000, which amazed everyone.
ZiMoja, the website covering their hot romance, originally reported on the couple’s connection and how they met through a common acquaintance in 2023.
Their passion grew swiftly, and by October of last year, the pair had jetted off to Italy for a romantic getaway.
According to a close friend, the relationship has grown serious, with both families already introduced. “He is very clear about what he wants,” the friend revealed. “Bonang would never show him off if it was not for keeps. Her mom knows him, and everyone is happy for them.”
David Phume is no stranger to the spotlight himself. He is the nephew of former Mr. South Africa, Paul Phume, and is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mind.
Born in Johannesburg, David studied 3D animation at a private college before graduating from an animation school in San Francisco.
He furthered his education in robotics and AI through Udacity. In 2005, he founded Penthouse Motion Pictures, an award-winning broadcast design and animation studio.
His career took him to Silicon Valley, where he launched Blockchain, a platform to nurture young African technologists and computer scientists to solve Africa’s challenges through technology.
Bonang was candid and heartfelt when speaking to ZiMoja about her relationship with David. “We’ve been together for over a year now. He’s my soulmate, my life supporter. I love him,” she said, her words echoing the depth of their connection.
