Kano Assembly passes bill to create second-class emirates

The Kano State House of Assembly successfully passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 at its third reading on Tuesday.

Sponsored by Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency representative Muhammad Bello Bututu, the bill aims to designate Kano as a first-class emirate while keeping Rano, Gaya, and Karaye as second-class emirates.

Under the bill, Emirs of the second-class emirates will report to the Emir of Kano and have the authority to offer advice on matters such as public order, boundary disputes, and inter-personal disputes within their regions.
