‘I brought Wizkid vibe into music comedy’ – Kenny Blaq

Popular comedian, Kenny Blaq has set the record straight by stating that he did not originate music comedy in Nigeria, contrary to popular belief.

He acknowledged the late Gbenga Adeboye, CD John, and other pioneers for laying the foundation for the genre in the country.

While he recognized their contributions, Kenny Blaq also highlighted his own unique contribution by introducing a modern, “Wizkid and Davido vibe” to music comedy.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Kenny Blaq said, “Because of the way I did music comedy, a lot of people have the impression that I brought music comedy to Nigeria. Some people think that I started music comedy as a genre.

“But they were music comedians like the late Gbenga Adeboye, Fung Otong, MC Miracle, Maleke and late CD John. But I think what made mine different is my approach towards it.

“I brought the Wizkid and Davido vibe into it. And I was able to do different genres of music with my comedy.

“Those who did music comedy before me, did a particular style of music comedy. They were either doing Igbo or Yoruba music.

“But I was doing mashup, covers, and I was telling stories and I was consistent with it.

“I did not start music comedy but I can say that I’m one of those that have made music comedy strong in this part of the world.”
