I choose 20 years in prison than sing ‘Tinubu’s anthem’ – Aisha Yesufu

Tinubu Isn’t My President – Aisha Yesufu

Social critic Aisha Yesufu has boldly stated that she would choose to spend two decades in prison rather than sing the new national anthem, which she believes to be President Bola Tinubu’s anthem.

Her impassioned declaration comes in response to a controversial Bill, introduced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, that includes harsh penalties for individuals inciting separatist agitation or inter-group conflict.

The proposed legislation suggests a hefty fine of N10 million or a 25-year prison sentence for convicted offenders.

According to reports by The Sun, the Bill also includes provisions for severe punishments for those who deface national symbols, refuse to recite the national anthem or pledge, and attempt to incite violence against the government. Those found guilty could face a fine of N5 million, a 10-year imprisonment term, or both.

Despite the potential consequences outlined in the Bill, Aisha Yesufu remains resolute in her decision to defy it. She proudly proclaims that she would rather serve time in prison than comply with reciting the anthem as mandated.

She posted on X: “Will choose 20 years in prison rather than sing Tinubu’s anthem passed by slaves masquerading as lawmakers in the National Assembly.”

CREEBHILLS reported that the Nigerian activist and politician had publicly rejected the recently adopted national anthem, ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.
