Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria, has officially retired after reaching the age of 70.
Born on August 22, 1954, Ariwoola was elevated to the Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011, and later appointed as the substantive CJN on June 27, 2022.
His appointment came after the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad, and he was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on September 21, 2022.
As events marking Ariwoola’s retirement unfold at the Supreme Court, there are indications that Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will be appointed as the new CJN to replace him.
