Megan Thee Stallion is poised to serve as the host for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
On Thursday, it was disclosed that the acclaimed rapper will preside over this year’s MTV VMAs, which are scheduled to be broadcast live from the UBS Arena in New York on September 11.
In addition to her hosting duties, Megan is nominated for five awards at this prestigious event, including Best Hip-Hop and Best Collaboration, the latter of which she shares with fellow rapper GloRilla. Notably, the artist has previously secured two VMAs, including the Best Hip-Hop award in 2020.
Megan Thee Stallion previously graced the stage during the MTV VMAs pre-show in 2019 before ascending to the role of host for the main event, thereby becoming the second artist in history to achieve this distinction.
The HISS rapper follows in the footsteps of Nicki Minaj, who made her pre-show performance in 2010 and co-hosted the main event in 2022. Minaj subsequently hosted the event independently in 2023.
This announcement emerges two months subsequent to the release of the Hot Girl Summer hitmaker’s third studio album, titled Megan, which showcases collaborations with prominent artists such as GloRilla, Victoria Monet, Kyle Rich, and others.
Megan Thee Stallion is currently engaged in her inaugural headlining tour, the Hot Girl Summer Tour, which commenced in May and is set to conclude on September 26.
Taylor Swift stands at the forefront of this year’s VMA nominees, boasting a total of 10 nominations, closely followed by Post Malone with nine, and both Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande with six nominations each.
Scheduled performers for the event include notable artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Chappell Roan, Halsey, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Blackpink’s Lisa, among others.
