Knarik Gambaryan, mother of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, firmly stated that her son is innocent of the charges leveled against him by the Nigerian government.
Tigran, a U.S. citizen and Binance’s financial crimes compliance chief, was arrested in February 2024 upon his arrival in Nigeria, alongside another executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla.
The charges against them relate to alleged money laundering and terrorism financing activities linked to Binance.
While Anjarwalla managed to escape to Kenya and has not been extradited, Gambaryan is currently on trial in Nigeria and has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Despite concerns about his health raised by his family and employer, the Nigerian Correctional Service has reported that Gambaryan is in good health.
Knarik’s statement emphasized her son’s innocence and asserted that he had no involvement in the alleged activities.
She begged the Nigerian government to allow his son to return home, adding that she was ready to exchange herself for her son’s freedom.
“He’s innocent, that’s all. But I’m asking, and I’m begging everyone who can help my son: please bring him home. That’s all we need,” Knarik said.
“Take me, exchange me for my son, just let him go home! I don’t care what happens to me, just let my son go home!”, Gambaryan’s mother was quoted as saying.
