‘People say I worship the devil’ – Rema

Rema has won the Best Afrobeats Award at the 2023 MTV EMAs

Nigerian singer Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, recently spoke about the wildest rumor he has encountered online about himself.

The ‘Calm Down’ singer shared that being labeled as a “devil worshiper” was the most outrageous false claim circulating about him.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Kids Take Over’ podcast, Rema clarified that the symbols he incorporates in his work are rooted in Edo culture, not connected to Satanism as some may speculate.

The host asked: “What’s the most crazy, untrue thing that you’ve seen online about you?”

Rema replied: “They say worship the devil [laughs]. It’s crazy. I didn’t respond to it because it is not important. It’s a waste of time.”

Additionally, Rema discussed his collaboration with Canadian music icon Drake on the leaked track ‘Mention Me’ in 2020.

“I’m happy to work with a legend like Drake. I feel like we are going to make a very huge song if we take our time to build something very strong,” he said.
