Stevie J has consistently aligned himself with Diddy throughout his career.
He was an integral member of Diddy’s production collective, known as the Hitmen, and he has publicly advocated for a more measured response from the public regarding the mogul in the wake of recent accusations.
In the year 2024, it has proven challenging to identify proponents of Diddy; however, Stevie J remains among the few.
At this point, he was. The producer made an appearance in the recent TMZ documentary entitled The Downfall of Diddy, where he expressed his astonishment upon viewing the footage depicting his friend assaulting Cassie.
Stevie J informed TMZ chief Harvey Levin that he convened with Diddy shortly after the emergence of the video on the internet. He asserted that he engaged in a candid and profound discussion with the founder of Bad Boy Records.
“It was a real emotional moment,” Stevie J recalled. “He was hurt that that video came out, it crushed him.” The producer stated that Diddy’s reasoning for the incident was very similar to the reasons given in Diddy’s now-infamous IG apology video. “He was in a dark place in his life,” Stevie J asserted. “He was just doing a lot of drugs and it was dark for him.”
The narrative concerning Diddy’s purported “dark place” is not novel for those who have been attentively monitoring the case.
The assertion that Diddy was under the influence of narcotics during the incident is, however, a more recent development.
While it may not come as a surprise to entertain the possibility of Diddy being involved with various substances, Stevie J maintains that the mogul privately verified this information.
Another significant disclosure during the TMZ interview arose when Levin inquired about Diddy’s response to the footage.
Rather than expressing remorse for his actions, Stevie asserted that the mogul’s primary concern was who might witness the video.
“He was like, ‘Yo my daughter’s and my mom gotta see this,'” Stevie J recounted. “And I was like, yeah, your friends gotta see it too.” Levin questioned Diddy’s thought process, especially when the producer noted that Diddy hated to “relive” the moment. Stevie J balked at the notion that the mogul’s reaction was a selfish one, however. “Who wants to see themselves beating on a girl,” he asserted. “I think that would hurt all of us.” Diddy is currently awaiting trial for racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
