A bomb explosion in Zamfara State has resulted in casualties and injuries. The tragic event took place on the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area, with reports suggesting that bandits planted the explosive device which detonated on a busy part of the road.
The attack targeted both travelers and locals in the area.
The news was shared by Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert in the Lake Chad Basin, who highlighted that this was the second bomb explosion on this route. This indicates a worrying shift in tactics by the bandits in Zamfara, as the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region.
“Traditionally known for their activities such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed attacks, the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region,” the security expert noted.
