Donald Trump to pay $5M after losing appeal in E. Jean Carroll sexual abuse case

A federal appeals court has upheld a $5 million civil verdict against President-elect Donald Trump, confirming his liability for sexually abusing and defaming journalist E. Jean Carroll.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected Trump’s appeal, which claimed the trial was unfair due to the inclusion of evidence about his past sexual misconduct, including the “Access Hollywood” video.

This decision stems from a 2023 jury verdict that found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in a department store dressing room in the mid-1990s and defaming her in 2022 by denying the assault.

In addition to this case, Trump is appealing a $83.3 million verdict for defamation damages related to statements he made about Carroll in 2019.
