Makinde presents staff of office to new Alaafin

Oyo State’s Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, officially conferred the staff and certificate of office to Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade, the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, on Monday.

This event signifies the formal commencement of the new monarch’s reign on the esteemed throne of Alaafin of Oyo.

The ceremony occurred at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, on Monday, January 13, during which Governor Makinde underscored the importance of the Alaafin of Oyo.

The governor highlighted that the Alaafin serves not merely as a traditional ruler but also as the guardian of the profound history and customs of the Oyo kingdom.

Governor Makinde articulated his assurance in Oba Owoade’s capability to govern with sagacity, integrity, and a dedication to fostering unity within the Oyo kingdom.

In his response, the newly appointed Alaafin, Oba Owoade, expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo and committed to prioritizing the advancement and welfare of the kingdom’s inhabitants.

Oba Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who enjoyed a remarkable reign of 51 years prior to his demise.

The Oyo State government declared Prince Owoade’s appointment as Alaafin of Oyo on Friday, culminating the disputes that ensued following the late Alaafin’s passing.
