Renowned actress Joke Silva has expressed her alarm at the alarming increase in cases of women being murdered by their partners, supposedly out of suspicions of infidelity.
During a recent conversation with Saturday Beats, Joke Silva conveyed her anger and called for severe punishment for those responsible.
The experienced actress stressed the need for perpetrators of such terrible crimes to be sentenced to life imprisonment, arguing that it is a major offense. She questioned the rationale behind taking someone’s life over baseless suspicions of infidelity, pointing out the societal double standards that persist.

The actress also stressed that even if there is evidence of cheating, it is never an excuse for violence or murder.
She said:
“These men should be tried and put in jail for life because it is a capital offence. The law should take its course because it’s ridiculous. Men cheat all the time. Do they get killed? Do they get burnt? What rubbish is that? Where’s the proof that she cheated? And what about the man who she cheated with, what would happen to him? Is he supposed to go scot-free?”
“It’s so bad. Even if there’s evidence of cheating, why can’t you just carry your bag and leave? Or send the woman back to her parents? If you investigate properly, you’ll probably find that the murderer has cheated a million times, yet he’s killing his partner in one instance.
“The women who are dead now are people’s children and mothers too.”
Joke Silva further emphasized the importance of enforcing sanctions for bad behavior, stating that this is a crucial form of advocacy.
She believes that the entertainment industry has a role to play in addressing these issues, but that it is ultimately up to the justice system to hold perpetrators accountable.
Joke Silva said:
“How much advocacy do you want the industry to do? One of the best forms of advocacy is enforcing sanctions for bad behaviour. This isn’t just bad behaviour; it is criminal.”
