Selena Gomez is visibly upset with President Trump for his continued deportation raids.
President Trump, who recently came back into office, has adopted a strict approach to immigration by instructing ICE officers to carry out mass deportations of undocumented migrants.
Videos showing individuals being detained and escorted away by authorities have circulated online, while the President even challenged Colombia’s attempts to prevent the return of their citizens to America.
These developments have caused concern in the US, prompting 32-year-old singer and actress Selena Gomez to voice her worries on social media. She pointed out that hundreds of people have already been rounded up in the ongoing raids.
In an Instagram Stories video, the star emotionally declared, “I just wanted to say that I am so sorry. My people are getting attacked… The children… They don’t understand.”
Struggling through tears, the American-Mexican star continued, “I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do.”
As she continued to wipe tears from her face, and with her hand shaking, Selena Gomez added, “I’ll try everything, I promise.”
She seemingly suffered a backlash, however, as her video was soon deleted and she posted a message stating, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
President Trump has raised eyebrows by giving ICE officers the power to target schools and churches in order to make arrests and deportations.
The 47th President vowed to crack down on undocumented immigrants and organise mass deportations after returning to power this month.
He placed emergency sanctions on Colombia when authorities there denied flights with deported Colombian citizens from landing on Sunday.
However, the South American nation quickly folded and dispatched the Colombian presidential plane to aid in repatriating citizens.
