Killer Mike is taking legal action against the private security firms hired for the 2024 Grammys after he was arrested at the event.
“There was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter,” he said after the arrest. “We experienced an overzealous security guard.”
Killer Mike, real name Michael Santiago Render, was released from custody hours later.
According to the lawsuit obtained by Variety, Mike is suing S&S Labor Force Inc and JRM Private Security for false arrest, assault and battery, among other charges, claiming they had “no authority in law” to detain him and “no reason” to suspect him of any crime.
“When Plaintiff sought to leave the area, Defendants physically assaulted and battered him to prevent him from leaving by grabbing his arm and telling him to remain there.”
The lawsuit highlights that the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office chose not to press charges against Mike, acknowledging that he had not committed any criminal offense.
In July of the previous year, Mike released a track titled Humble Me, which includes a verse referencing his arrest.
