Billionaire Elon Musk has clarified that he is not interested in purchasing TikTok, the popular short-video app facing potential ban due to national security concerns with its Chinese owner, ByteDance.
Despite US President Donald Trump suggesting Musk as a potential buyer, Musk has confirmed he has not submitted a bid for TikTok.
“I don’t have any plans for what I would do if I had TikTok. I’m not chomping at the bit to acquire TikTok, I do not acquire companies in general, it’s quite rare,” Musk said.
He noted that he personally does not use the app and is unfamiliar with its format.
Additionally, Elon Musk highlighted his recent acquisition of social media platform Twitter, now known as X, as an unusual venture.
President Trump had signed an executive order to delay the ban on TikTok, originally scheduled for January 19, giving ByteDance until then to divest its US assets or face a ban over national security risks.
