The National Examination Council (NECO) has officially published the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, encompassing a total of 84,799 candidates, among whom 57,114 attained five or more credits, inclusive of English Language and Mathematics, thereby constituting 67.35 percent.
NECO has further cautioned that any supervisor found to be complicit in examination malpractice will face not only blacklisting but also the dissemination of their identity to other examination authorities, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, articulated this information during a press briefing at the organization’s headquarters in Minna, noting that the candidate population consisted of 44,227 males (52.21%) and 40,522 females (47.78%).
He stated that the results were released 62 days subsequent to the administration of the final paper, which encompassed a total of 29 subjects.
Wushishi revealed that a total of 6,160 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice, a significant decrease from the 8,518 recorded in 2023, marking a reduction of 27.7 percent.
According to his statements, seven supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision, tardiness, and for facilitating malpractice during the examination.
The registrar additionally disclosed that 14 examination centers have been subjected to blacklisting due to their participation in ‘whole centre’ malpractice across nine subjects.
The affected centers are located in Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states.
In light of this situation, Wushishi reiterated that any supervisor identified in malpractice will not only be blacklisted, but their name will also be communicated to other examination entities, including JAMB.
He emphasized that this initiative is designed to prevent supervisors engaged in malpractice from participating in other examinations, thus ensuring the preservation of the examination process’s integrity.
