South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, aged 24, has been officially reported deceased in her residence located in Seongsu-dong, as confirmed by authorities on Sunday.
As per the police report, a close acquaintance uncovered her remains at approximately 4:55 PM (07:55 GMT).
Investigators have indicated that there were no indications of foul play, and a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is currently underway.
Kim Sae-ron, who embarked on her acting career as a child, was esteemed as one of South Korea’s most promising emerging talents. She garnered international acclaim for her performance in A Brand New Life (2009), which debuted at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Subsequently, she featured in several commercially successful films, including The Man from Nowhere (2010)—which was South Korea’s highest-grossing film of that year—and The Neighbour (2012), for which she received accolades.
Other significant contributions to her filmography include the 2014 feature A Girl at My Door and the 2016 television drama Mirror of the Witch.
Kim Sae-ron substantially retreated from the public sphere in 2022 following an incident involving driving under the influence, for which she incurred a financial penalty of 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023.
Her final performance occurred in Netflix’s 2023 Korean drama Bloodhounds, although it has been reported that a majority of her scenes were excised due to the surrounding controversy.
