Grimes has pleaded with the public to refrain from sharing photos of her and Elon Musk’s oldest child.
During a recent visit to the White House, Musk brought their four-year-old son X AE A-XII, whose actions, such as making faces and grabbing at his father, led to widespread sharing of images and videos on social media.
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has urged people to stop spreading images of their young child online, emphasizing that he is not able to consent to being a public figure at his age.
“I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere. I think fame is something you should consent to,” she told Time in an interview. “Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking.”
After her son’s public appearance at the Oval Office, the Canadian musician revealed on social media that she didn’t know about it in advance and seemingly criticised her ex Musk for bringing him to a press event.
“He should not be in public like this,” she wrote at the time.
During the Time interview, Grimes addressed the headlines her response generated, saying, “It was like, ‘Grimes slams,’ ‘Grimes speaks out.’ It’s like, OK, it was a reply (to another X user).”
The musician and artist had an on-and-off relationship with the 53-year-old Tesla and SpaceX CEO from 2018 to 2022. They share two other children, daughter Exa Dark Siderael and son Techno Mechanicus.
