Neo-Soul Legend Angie Stone Passes Away at 63 in Tragic Car Accident

The music world is mourning after the sudden passing of acclaimed neo-soul singer and hip-hop pioneer Angie Stone.

The 63-year-old artist reportedly lost her life in a fatal car accident in the early hours of Saturday, March 1, 2025, while returning from a performance in Montgomery, Alabama.

Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone’s musical journey began as a member of the groundbreaking hip-hop trio The Sequence, best known for their hit song Funk You Up. She later found success with the R&B group Vertical Hold before launching a highly successful solo career in the late 1990s.

Her debut solo album, Black Diamond, was a commercial success, earning gold certification and featuring timeless hits like No More Rain (In This Cloud). However, it was her 2001 hit “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” that cemented her legacy as one of neo-soul’s most influential voices.

Beyond music, Stone also showcased her talents in acting, appearing in films such as The Hot Chick and Ride Along.

She is survived by her son Michael, daughter Diamond, and two grandchildren. Fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to pay tribute to her remarkable contributions to music and culture.

Angie Stone’s voice, artistry, and impact will forever be remembered in the world of R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul.
