The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has urged the federal government to refrain from taking action against a female corps member who allegedly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a viral video.
The corps member, Ushie Uguamaye, raised concerns about the current government’s policies on social media platform TikTok, leading to threats from NYSC officials.
TUC President, Festus Osifo, appeared on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics to defend the corps member, stating that her comments stemmed from frustration.
Osifo emphasized the importance of government tolerance towards criticism and urged authorities to show restraint in this situation. Despite the controversy surrounding the incident, the NYSC has yet to issue an official statement.
“They (government) have to develop this resilience to understand that people are frustrated, people are hungry, people are tired. So, if they decide to vent, I strongly believe that the government should not personalise it and come after such individuals.
“Imagine a young lady carrying out her NYSC function, what does she really have to do to bring down government? So, it is about personal frustration that she has aired.
“So, I think that the government has to persevere much more, they have to be more tolerant, and they have to have this deep level of patient with Nigerians because people are passing through a lot as it stands today,” TUC boss said.
Osifo, however, advised critics to always criticise the government within the expected norm and with some level of decorum.
Earlier, it was also reported that Raye had been summoned by the NYSC for questioning.
Meanwhile, the 2023 presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, also backed Raye.
