Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to discipline Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, for allegedly violating the organization’s rules.
Raye recently sparked controversy after openly criticizing President Bola Tinubu over the country’s economic situation.
Following her remarks, she claimed NYSC officials threatened her and summoned her to appear before her Local Government Inspector (LGI) in Lagos on Monday, March 17.
Reacting to the situation, Omokri insisted that the NYSC uphold its rules and cited Davido’s case as an example, recalling how the music star was disciplined during his service year for a similar violation.
“This is not about politics or ethnicity. Under President Buhari, the NYSC disciplined music star Davido for flouting its rule.
The people of the Southwest did not accuse the NYSC of tribalism, and the PDP did not accuse President Buhari of witch-hunting an opposition politician. There must be a rule of law in Nigeria rather than rule by sentiments.”
With Raye’s case gaining widespread attention, whether the NYSC will take official action against her remains to be seen.
