Samsung Electronics co-CEO, Han Jong-Hee, passed away at the age of 63 on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest, confirmed by a spokesperson for the company.
Born in 1962, Han Jong-Hee dedicated more than 37 years to Samsung, playing a key role in establishing its TV business as a global leader.
In 2022, he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO, where he oversaw the consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions.
In an internal message, Samsung paid tribute to Han, stating, “He dedicated more than 37 years of his life to leading Samsung’s TV business to become a global leader.”
The company added, “Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
No announcement has been made regarding Han’s successor, according to the spokesperson.
According to CNN, Just last week, Han Jong-Hee chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, where he addressed concerns about the company’s stock performance and economic uncertainties.
“There are some difficulties in doing semiconductor M&As due to regulatory issues and various national interests, but we’re determined to produce some tangible results this year,” he said.
Han started his career at Samsung in 1988 after graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before his role as co-CEO, he also managed the company’s display operations.
