Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been denied the request to postpone the proceedings of his trial.
The 55-year-old recording artist has been incarcerated since September of the previous year following his arrest in New York, where he faces allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and the facilitation of transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.
Diddy is scheduled to appear at trial in May and has already entered a plea of not guilty to the charges levied against him, firmly asserting his innocence regarding any alleged misconduct.
He had sought the permission of a judge to defer the highly anticipated trial by an additional two months to afford his legal team ample time for preparation; however, this request has been dismissed by the judge.
Us Weekly reported that Judge Arun Subramanian denied the defense team’s appeal to extend the trial’s commencement date on Friday.
Consequently, the trial will commence as originally planned on Monday, May 5, with the jury selection process set to initiate on that date, followed by the opening statements scheduled for Monday, May 12.
Diddy has adamantly refuted the accusations against him, and his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has consistently implored those with a vested interest in the trial to refrain from forming judgments until the presentation of evidence and a conclusive ruling have transpired.
Us Weekly quoted Agnifilo previously telling them that Diddy was “an imperfect person” but “not a criminal.”
He added, “Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
