Makinde won’t run for 2027 presidency – Fayose

Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, the ex-Governor of Ekiti State, has revealed that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has no plans to run for presidency in 2027.

According to Fayose, Makinde has assured him that he will not be a candidate against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections. This statement was made by Fayose during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

According to Fayose: “When I saw an advert running on social media, with all due respect to Makinde, I forwarded it to him, and he called me to say he’s not running and does not know anything about those fliers. He has not told me otherwise.

“I will not put words in his mouth; I will believe whatever he told me as a brother. He told me that he will not be used against a Yoruba man as president.

“I stand here to say Makinde will not run for president, except if anything changes.

“There is no day you will satisfy people on this earth or in any country at all. You own nothing—your wife is yours until you pass, your house is yours until you pass.

“Today, you are not honourable until you leave. People are now saying Jonathan should come back—the same Jonathan they drove out many years ago.

“It is better to allow Asiwaju to conclude his tenure because this is a southern slot. Let him fix the country, then we go back to the North. The problem did not start today and it won’t end today; everybody is just trying to make it better.”

He also declared that President Bola Tinubu should be allowed to complete a second term in office.

Fayose questioned which viable opposition could challenge Tinubu in 2027.

“For me, if you compare today and the past, you will still give it to Bola Tinubu. Nobody is perfect, and the system is rotten. The situation is not easy to manage, but when you compare inflation, you will realise that it’s a far cry from the past.

“With the current state of the PDP, let’s assume that Asiwaju is doing well or not—where is the party confronting him? Where is the organised party confronting him?

“The majority of our governors are fighting for their own survival, which is normal. Those who are bold, like me, and support Asiwaju have come out and said it. Everybody is fighting for their own survival—and that is the truth,” he added.
