Tina Knowles has unveiled her personal struggles with breast cancer.
The pioneering figure, mother to Beyonce and Solange, has finally released her highly anticipated memoir, ‘Matriarch,’ on April 22.
In her autobiography, the esteemed fashion and beauty mogul shared that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in recent times. Tina Knowles attributed the delayed diagnosis to missing a mammogram appointment during the pandemic.
Expanding on the harrowing ordeal, she said of revealing the news to the world, the 71-year-old said to PEOPLE:
“I struggled with whether I would share that journey [in the book] because I’m very private. But I decided to share it because I think it’s a lot of lessons in it for other women. And I think as women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me.”
In happy news, Knowles shared that she is “cancer free.”
