Mary J. Blige is now entangled in fresh legal troubles.
A longtime friendship between the singer and a close associate has reportedly crumbled and may soon escalate into a court battle.
Celebrity stylist Misa Hylton has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Blige, who was once her closest friend.
According to revealing court documents, Hylton accuses Mary J. Blige of intentionally sabotaging her management agreement with Harlem rapper Vado.
Blige recently collaborated with Vado on the track Still Believe and is believed to have a vested interest in his career.
Hylton alleges that Mary J. Blige, through her company Beautiful Life Productions, used her influence in the music industry to pressure Vado into severing ties with M.I.S.A. Management — Hylton’s firm, which had a contract entitling it to 20% of the rapper’s earnings.
Now, Hylton is seeking $5 million in damages for breach of contract, emotional harm, and interference in her business dealings, claiming the betrayal affected both her finances and her emotional and professional stability.
The lawsuit claims Blige excluded Hylton and her team from yacht parties, late-night hotel gatherings, and VIP events that included Vado, deliberately isolating them.
Additionally, Hylton says Blige’s head of security — who is also rumored to be her boyfriend — tried to convince Vado to drop M.I.S.A., warning him that sticking with them could cost him major career opportunities.
Though Blige has yet to comment publicly, she recently concluded her For My Fans Tour — and it appears her next major appearance could be in court.
