Yunice Abbas, a key figure in the trial of a gang accused of robbing Kim Kardashian at gunpoint in Paris in 2016 and stealing $9 million worth of jewelry from her, has expressed remorse for the trauma he caused the reality star and business mogul over the years.
Despite his criminal history, Abbas admitted that this was the first time he truly felt the impact of the harm he had inflicted on his victim. The trial against the 10 individuals implicated in the robbery resumed on Monday.
“I regret it, not because I got caught, but because there was a trauma,” the 72-year-old said before a jury Tuesday.
As one of the first defendants to testify in the trial, Abbas previously admitted to his role in the heist, providing details in his book, “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian,” published in 2021. During his testimony, he clarified that he did not choose the book’s title and disputed his alleged involvement in the robbery.
Abbas also denied any part in tying up Kim Kardashian during the incident, as she was in Paris for Fashion Week at the time, asserting that he remained downstairs instead.
Abbas and nine others, dubbed the “grandpa robbers” in local media due to their ages — some of the accused are in their 70s and 80s — are alleged to have played a range of roles in the heist including holding Kardashian, 44, at gunpoint and being complicit in that crime.
