The Nigerian government has given foreigners with expired visas a three-month deadline to leave the country.
This directive was made public by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement issued on Friday, May 2, 2025.
According to the announcement, signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, overstaying in the country will incur a daily penalty of $15, along with potential consequences such as a five-year entry ban or permanent blacklisting, effective from September 2025.
“A 3-month grace period allows foreigners with expired visas to exit Nigeria without penalty, ending August 1st, 2025,” the statement added.
Additionally, the statement introduced a new requirement: inbound foreigners must now complete an online landing card, and outbound travelers must fill out an exit card — both available at lecard.immigration.gov.ng.
