Lil Durk hasn’t officially stepped away from his music career despite facing serious murder-for-hire allegations, but the situation remains a major setback.
Unfortunately, it appears his hopes of securing release before trial have been denied.
According to Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon on Twitter, a court denied the Chicago rapper bail on Thursday, May 8, during a hearing. Lil Durk reportedly smiled at roughly 20 supporters in the courtroom as the judge delivered the decision.
His legal team urged the court to either dismiss the case or grant him bail, arguing that the prosecution’s evidence—including lyrics and social media posts from fan pages—was flawed. However, the judge ruled that Durk must remain in custody while awaiting trial.
There has been a slight silver lining: prosecutors have reportedly decided not to use his song lyrics in their arguments. Instead, they will rely on other alleged evidence.
Authorities accuse Lil Durk—also known as Smurk—of orchestrating a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles targeting rapper Quando Rondo, supposedly in retaliation for the killing of King Von, a close associate of Durk. The attack resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab. Prosecutors allege that Durk financed and arranged the hit—claims he and his defense team firmly deny.
Despite these denials, Durk’s lawyers face an uphill battle, criticizing both the prosecution’s approach and the broader treatment of hip-hop artists in legal proceedings.
The trial is currently set to begin on October 14, and how both sides navigate the upcoming months will determine the next chapter in this high-profile case.
