In a post-match statement, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola stated that securing a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season feels as significant as winning a title.
The team, who previously held the Premier League title, emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Fulham on the final day of the season, securing third place.
Goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland sealed the win at Craven Cottage.
Guardiola expressed pride in his players but acknowledged the need for improvement in preparation for the next season.
Guardiola told reporters: “Today, it’s a relief because qualification for the Champions League is like winning a title. It’s a fact.
“Finishing third is really nice. It’s not perfect, but we will be in Europe next season in the Champions League.
“So today, maybe people don’t believe it, but it’s absolutely a happy day for us.”
