In a recent New York Magazine cover story, Michael B. Jordan opened up about why he keeps a low profile online—and it’s all about longevity and strategy.
The Creed star admitted he deliberately avoids oversharing or maintaining an active social media presence. The reason? To preserve his movie star appeal. He revealed that this approach was shaped by advice from one of his biggest mentors, Denzel Washington.
“Why would they pay to see you on a weekend if they see you all week for free?” Washington once told him.
Taking that wisdom to heart, Jordan has embraced mystery and exclusivity—two rare qualities in an age of constant content. He rarely posts on X or TikTok, and even his Instagram activity spikes only around movie releases.
This calculated restraint, he says, isn’t about avoiding the spotlight but about controlling the narrative and creating space for anticipation.
Jordan also reflected on his early acting journey—from roles in Hardball, The Wire, and Friday Night Lights, to feeling uncertain about his future in the industry:
“I was really, really, really unsure of what my career was going to be [12 years ago]. Am I a TV actor? Where am I going?”
His big break came in 2013 with Fruitvale Station, where he teamed up with Ryan Coogler—a creative partnership that would go on to shape his career with projects like Creed and Black Panther.
“[Ryan] told me he thought I was a movie star. He thought I was a great actor, and he wanted to show the rest of the world that.”
Now one of Hollywood’s most respected leading men, Michael B. Jordan continues to prove that in an industry full of noise, silence can still speak volumes.
