Eminem has filed a \$109 million lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook.
The rapper’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style, initiated legal action alleging that Meta committed copyright infringement involving 243 of Eminem’s songs, seeking damages amounting to $109 million (£80.6 million).
According to the filing, Meta—owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—allegedly released various tools that “allow and encourage its users to steal” Eminem’s recordings for use in videos “without proper attribution or license.”
The suit further accused Meta of engaging in “rampant infringement” of Eight Mile Compositions, and doing so with full knowledge, describing the actions as “knowing infringement.”
In particular, the complaint pointed to Meta’s Original Audio and Reels services as platforms that knowingly enabled the “unauthorized storage, reproduction and exploitation” of Eminem’s music.
As a result, Eminem is seeking compensation for financial losses tied to “the diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants’ theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.”
If a specific value cannot be determined, the suit demands the maximum statutory damages: $150,000 (£111,000) for each of the 243 songs across Meta’s three platforms, exceeding $100 million in total.
At the time of reporting, Meta had not yet issued a public response to the lawsuit.
