Chelsea FC has officially withdrawn from negotiations to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, following the rejection of their improved €21 million offer, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
The Premier League club had hoped to secure the French shot-stopper ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Still, Milan stood firm on their valuation, declining both Chelsea’s initial €15m plus bonuses bid and the revised €21m offer.
Romano reported on X (formerly Twitter):
“Mike Maignan deal now OFF between Chelsea and AC Milan. Chelsea not willing to meet Milan price, deal not proceeding in time for Club World Cup as #CFC won’t pay ‘CWC tax.’”
As a result, the Blues will continue with their existing goalkeeping options: Djordje Petrović, Robert Sánchez, Filip Jörgensen, and promising academy talent Mike Penders.
Although Maignan remains unsettled at San Siro—after an agreed contract renewal in March went unsigned—Milan have maintained a firm stance, rejecting all offers from Chelsea despite the player’s interest in a move.
With no breakthrough in sight, Chelsea have ended their pursuit and are now turning their focus to other squad priorities ahead of the 2025/26 season.
