Socio-political activist and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has dismissed claims that he receives financial compensation for his support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, Omokri, known for his consistent criticism of opposition figures, particularly Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, clarified that his support for President Tinubu stems from patriotism rather than personal gain.
Addressing widespread allegations that he is on the payroll of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, Omokri said:
“So who was paying me between 2023 and 2025 when I was traveling over on matters concerning Nigeria? Why would anyone give me money? I’m doing this not just for the love I have for Tinubu but the love I have for Nigeria.”
He further explained that his recent investigative trip to Lagos to verify the progress of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project was personally funded.
“Right now, I’m in Lagos and I don’t live here. I came to Lagos because people have spread wrong information about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. I bought a ticket with my own money, then I came and gathered journalists. I also gathered members of the public, ordinary Nigerians. I bought a drone with my own money to verify that indeed the 30 kilometers highway is complete,” he added.
Omokri’s remarks come amid debates over the administration’s handling of major infrastructure projects and public skepticism about political endorsements.
