The stakes have never been higher as ‘Kings of Joburg’ returns with its explosive third season, which premiered on Friday, 13 June.
The hit South African crime drama dives deeper into the supernatural and criminal chaos surrounding the Masire family, as they fight to keep control of Johannesburg’s dangerous underworld.
In this new chapter, the Masire empire faces its greatest threats yet — from deadly curses and betrayals to enemies emerging from every corner of the country.
Season 3 introduces fresh faces, expanded locations, and darker magical elements that push the family to their breaking point. Yet, at its core, the show remains a powerful story of brotherhood, loyalty, and survival.
Bigger, Bolder, and More Cinematic
Thembi Seete, who returns as Keneilwe Masire, shared her excitement about how this season bridges the worlds of Johannesburg and Cape Town, while also featuring international talent.
“I’m really excited to see both worlds come together — Joburg and Cape Town — as well as the collaboration of incredible actors from different parts of the world,” Seete told The Citizen. “When I first read the script, I thought, ‘Oh, we have a good story,’ and with the other characters’ worlds and how the story played out, I was really excited for them.”
Meanwhile, Zolisa Xaluva, who plays the conflicted Mo Masire, promises fans a cinematic feast and emotional depth unlike anything seen in previous seasons.
“It’s a strong, clear story — dynamic, constantly evolving. From a visual point of view, we would say it’s a heightened, cinematic offering — far superior to anything we have done so far,” Xaluva said. “We had two directors of photography, one shooting in Joburg and the other in Cape Town. It’s an exhibition of South African technical brilliance.”
